Baby Blues Already?!?!

With all the new pregnancies and newborns around me, I'm starting to get the baby blues. Liam is only five months old and even though he's super adorable, he's growing up on me. I know, I know, he's still a baby and I definitely don't want him to grow up any faster than he already is. I guess I just miss that little tiny baby.

Baby blues aside, Will and I do plan to have at least one more child. I'm currently using Implanon which lasts for three years. My current plan is to have it removed after Liam's second birthday. I think that would give us a good gap so that we can fully experience Liam's childhood. I want to give him a chance to enjoy being with just his Mommy and Daddy (maybe that's the older child in me speaking).
What's your opinion? Is there a such thing as a good age difference?

Project 31: Day 19

Day 19. Write about your significant other

Will is an amazing guy. He's sweet, generous, funny (or as I like to call him, silly) and seriously, has one of the biggest hearts of anyone I know. I think we were lucky to find each other and ever since the very first day, there has been an intense connection between us.
Will is, in a lot of ways, the opposite of me. There are times when I wish I could be more like him but I think we balance each other out. Although we fight and don't see eye to eye on a lot of things, Will has always accepted me for the woman I am (which isn't the easiest thing, I know). He's not only my husband, but he's also one of my best friends (I have to have other besties to talk to about him, haha) and I feel honored to share the rest of my life with him.
Love you William :)

2.) Exercise!!
3.) Don't give the camera to your mom during Liam's birth. She doesn't know how to record anything. Lol.

Project 31: Day 17

Day 17. Write about 3 things that make you happy.

Will: He's an amazing guy and I feel lucky to have him in my life. We don't always see eye to eye (like any married couple) but we're in it for the long haul.
Liam: Just seeing his little face makes me smile. He's a blessing and I couldn't imagine my life without him (or Will).
Life: Being alive, healthy and stable makes me happy. I want to give Liam all the things I didn't have as a child and I know Will feels the same way. Neither of our parents are still together and our home lives weren't always stable so I'm happy to have the ability and desire to provide something different for Liam's life.

Project 31: Day 16

Day 16. How old was Liam when he started sleeping through the night and how did you do this?

Haha, sleeping through the night? What's that?
Liam definitely does not sleep through the night. Since he's only breastfed, I'm not surprised. He still co-sleeps so it makes it easier to nurse without him fully waking up. He has been sleeping for longer periods of time but that just depends.
So far the advice I've received (the cry it out method, giving him cereal or formula before bed, etc.) are things that I'm not interested in trying out. He'll only be a baby once so until I am truly sleep deprived, I'm okay with him wanting some Mommy/Liam time at night.

Project 31: Day 15

Day 15. What do you wish for?

Before having Liam, I wished for a lot of things, mostly material and trivial. Ever since I've become a wife and mother, my priorities have changed and I've learned to put others before myself.
My wish is for happiness for my family. I wish for a long and happy marriage for Will and I and of course, I wish for all the happiness in the world for Liam.
So, I guess I wish for happiness.

Okay, this may seem like a boring outfit picture but I ♥ this purple shirt sooo much. The color is absolutely gorgeous and I was surprised that I was able to wear it just one month after having Liam (considering that I wore it just a year earlier at my skinniest). I really liked how this outfit turned out especially with my two favorite accessories.

My First Plugged Milk Duct

Yesterday was not a good day in the land of Mommy/Liam breastfeeding. Monday, I had a horrible headache so my mom watched Liam for me so I could lay down. Well, laying down = 4 hour nap, a missed breastfeeding session and a plugged milk duct.

Okay, I will admit it. I am a bit of a worrier. I can turn any problem into something huge so I was pretty sure I had mastitis. I googled my butt off and once I felt confident, I started the treatment process. After lots of massaging, pumping and three hot showers (Sorry Mother Earth), I finally was able to get the duct unplugged. Oh, Happy Day! It was still a little sore and I had a little pain when Liam nursed last night but this morning I feel great.

Lesson learned: I will definitely take more time during feedings and while pumping. Oh, and no more four hour naps for me.

Day 12. Write about what wears you out as a woman.

I think the expectations I have of being a woman wear me out. I feel like I should be a perfect mom and wife with the perfect house and perfect hair but I'm no superhero so it's hard to live up to those expectations.
I'm working on realizing that I can be an imperfect woman and still be an excellent mother and wife.

Project 31: Day 11

Day 11. Post a recipe. Or if you don't cook, try a new recipe and write about how it turned out (pictures please!).

This is one of Will's favorite meals. I haven't made it in awhile so pictures will have to wait :(

Layered Chicken and Black Bean Enchilada Casserole

Ingredients

  • 2 cups shredded chicken breast
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 2 tablespoons cilantro
  • 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (7 ounce) can diced green chile peppers, drained
  • 1 (10 ounce) can red enchilada sauce
  • 8 (6 inch) flour tortillas
  • 2 cups shredded Mexican blend cheese
  • 1 (8 ounce) container sour cream

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. Heat a large skillet over medium heat, and spray with vegetable cooking spray. Saute chicken with cumin and coriander until chicken is cooked through. Transfer to a medium bowl. Stir in the cilantro, black beans, and green chile peppers.
  3. Spread half of the enchilada sauce over the bottom of an 11x7 inch baking dish. Place 4 tortillas over the sauce, overlapping if necessary. Spoon half of the chicken mixture over the tortillas, and sprinkle with half of the cheese and half of the sour cream. Spoon the remaining enchilada sauce over the cheese, and make another layer of tortillas. Layer the remaining chicken mixture over the tortillas. Cover dish with a lid or aluminum foil.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove the cover, and sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top and dot with sour cream. Continue cooking, uncovered, for an additional 5 to 10 minutes, or until cheese melts. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Four Months Old!

Okay, so Liam is older than four months now but I've been slacking. Here is an update on Liam's Fourth Month:
Liam had his four month checkup and vaccinations in April. At his appointment, he weighed 16.3 lbs (66th percentile) and measured in at 25.2 inches long (47th percentile) with a head circumference of 17.1 inches (73rd percentile).

Liam grew sooo much during his fourth month:

He magically started liking tummy time which was amazing since he usually screamed his head off.
He started babbling like crazy (but only when he feels like it).
He fell in love with "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle. Seriously, the kid cannot get enough of that caterpillar and his eating adventure.
He also made a few discoveries during his fourth month: His toes and the dogs.

All in all, Liam had a pretty eventful fourth month filled with love and laughter (as well as a few tears around naptime).

And now it's picture time!!

Mommy's Little Wildcat!

Feet!!

Wow! I look just like Daddy in this picture.
Tummy Time!!

I'm a Slacker :(

I have been slacking hardcore on this blog so I have lots of catching up to do.
So, here's the plan: I will definitely be doing an update on Liam so expect lots of words, pictures and even a few videos.
I will also pretend that I have been keeping up with the Project 31 blogs and will continue with the Day 11 post tomorrow.
Hopefully this won't happen again (crossing my fingers).
